Pretty sure it was the other way ‘round. So, he should thank the artist.

Edit: ignore me. That was a different episode.

In the episode, after crash landing, he helps the natives and learns some of their sign language. Some of them adopt his tattoo as a result.

To be fair, there was an episode where it’s revealed that all native americans cultures somehow descended from space aliens.

The episode from season 2 “Tattoo” which belongs on the no fly list along with “Code of Honor” and “Message in a Bottle”

I don’t think that should put that episode in the same category as those others. On its own, “Message in a Bottle” is actually a good Star Trek episode. It is only when you take the actor’s extracurricular shenanigans into account that you might find a problem. On the other hand, “Code of Honor” and “Tattoo” were just bad for reasons in the episodes themselves.

Reminds me of Chevy Chase in Community. Pierce was genuinely one of the best parts of the early seasons. But the actor was all sorts of trouble, and knowing that fact sours fan’s enjoyment of his scenes.

It does not. I am not sure if this is some meta humor i don’t get, or if your certainty is really so misguided.

Chakotay’s tat was based off the tat’s of ancient aliens that visited is aboriginal ancestors and were revered as “sky spirits” or whatever.

They had the tat’s first. Edit: nevermjnd wrong episode.
