It would seem that every country has their ignorant, easily swayed voters who don’t vote in their best interest, but instead vote based on their moronic religious beliefs and for the candidate with the best false promises.
Or they vote for the cruel ignorant person who they think will punish the bad people, but not them or their friends and family.
