Bad presentation of quote toots in Piefed
I tried sharing a song to a music community on Piefed using a quote toot, and the title ends up being “Re: mastodon” rather than the first line of my message: https://piefed.social/c/obscuremusic/p/1604791/microblog-re-mastodon
A perfect quote toot implementation is not necessary, but it would be nice to see the post title fixed!
@piefed_meta
Edit: it seems the inclusion of the link made this post suffer from the same problem. That was not intentional, but underlines the point I guess.

I never would have thought to try that! Thanks for letting us know.
Would it be better to just embed the toot? I know masto has oembed stuff, but I have never messed around with it. I guess you still need to have a good title though for the post teaser.
Possibly that might get us something ok in the short term but it would leave third party clients out in the cold. They’d need to find their own way to cope too. If we can get PieFed handling Mastodon posts better then that benefits all the ‘downstream’ clients too.
I’ve put it in codeberg. Quote toots that get cross-posted to PieFed are pretty rare so there are definitely higher-priority issues.
@rimu@piefed.social piefed properly displaying quote posts from Mastodon would allow users the following workflow:
I think it would be great!

You can just put the url of the Mastodon post you want to quote into the Link/url field.
Some mobile apps will render it the same as the PF web app but probably not many.
That looks cool!
Testing on Voyager, Interstellar and Boost, none of them render it in any useable way, but for the webui it’s definitely a win.
That doesnt change anything about displaying proper Mastodon quotes that are posted from Mastodon to Piefed though, right?
Right :(
