I’m writing a script that finds filenames in a directory that only differ in case. Since I’m working with filesystems that are case insensitive sometimes, this is a pain to deal with and I’d rather rename the few files. But first I’ll have to find them 😉. Now, there might be some tool already that does this, but I enjoy the challenge.

Programming@programming.dev•Explaining Why Devs Burn Out So Often
5·5 months agoSo, did you quit your job as a developer and delivered pizzas for a while?
Does the keyboard flex when pressing on it or typing? I’ve watched assembley videos and the keyboard doesn’t seem well supported by the frame.

That’s normal. On BIOS systems the stage 1 bootloader (which is what this command installs) is always i386, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB#Installation_2 .
What surprises me is that the installer runs in BIOS mode, because your system should be recent enough to use EFI. When you boot into the installer, you should make sure to select the boot entry that has EFI in its name. That might be the problem, but without seeing the output of grub-install, it’s hard to tell.

2·8 months agoCan you maybe give us a ls -Al of /var/lib/radicale and /var/lib/radicale/collections to double check the permissions? I just looked at the systemd documentation and the service definition looks ok.

2·8 months agoI suspect its got something to do with the systemd service definition. You may have to tweak the parameters under “optional security settings” to make it work. Or maybe you could start radicale manually from the command line, just for testing, and see if that works

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Notepad autocorrected what I was typing for my foreign language exerciseEnglish
32·8 months agoI hate autocorrect in general. It doesn’t understand the concept of multiple languages in the same text, it doesn’t understand dialects and sometimes it even tries to correct words that are written correctly. One of the first things I turn off on every new device
I hate this message

Linux@lemmy.ml•Been enjoying Rhythmbox, what are your thoughts?
4·9 months agoI also use Rhythmbox, the UI is clean and simple. Other music players either are too complicated (UI has too much clutter, play queues) or want to automatically import all audio files in my home directory into the library, which is annoying. But to be fair, I haven’t tried a lot of other players, because I’m happy using Rhythmbox.

I don’t know what it’s like in Paris, but here in my area (germany) they had to discontinue the Chinese course, because not enough people signed up for it. So for what it’s worth, I don’t think you need to worry about taking someones seat. The language course I’m visiting at the moment (currently learning french) is really nice and welcoming, so no need to be shy :-)
