muusemuuse@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•introducing copyparty, the FOSS file serverEnglish2·22 hours agoOh yea, copyparty could do that. I might just do that too. My issue is more how do I grant them access to my network to get the thing tough? I currently use wireguard profiles and lock down where they can reach with rules and shit on a firewalla on a per account basis but that’s really complex and inelegant. It works and would working copypasta, but I kind of wish there was a simple webUI where I could define what a WireGuard user should be able to reach on my network with simple checkboxes by rules I have created over time. Probably wouldn’t tie into firewalla nicely though it could be more likely with OPNsense.
Hmm. Surely someone must have thought of that already. It would make adopting things like copypasta much simpler and less risky.

I cleaned the cat box yesterday and considered that an accomplishment.
Fuck.

I’m probably just going to do a UPS in the rack.
muusemuuse@sh.itjust.worksto Linux@lemmy.ml•Please, FOSS world, we need something like ChromeOSEnglish1·5 days agoI actually see a market for this the more I think about it. install the OS free, have the account hosted at the provider of your choice which will provide all the storage and cloud apps and email you want. You could have a cheap subscription that hosts a session elsewhere, or us selfhosters could host our own sessions for friends and family.
muusemuuse@sh.itjust.worksto Linux@lemmy.ml•Please, FOSS world, we need something like ChromeOSEnglish3·6 days agoWe really should have a FirefoxOS equivalent. Frankly, there’s little reason not to do this. The only thing really missing is Firefox support for PWAs.
I’d imagine a Debian based OS, with cage first showing a first-time-setup thing, then going to simper web first DE. You still need a panel at the bottom for managing multiple windows and the system tray and wifi and a desktop and start menu for pinned apps. Storage doesn’t even need to be local, it could just point to something in the cloud that you have execute commands on your behalf.
This is the ideal for tons of simple, lightweight users and there are a LOT of them.

I have a little mini server I built that fits into an old power mac G4 cube shell. I want to do something with GPUs now so that shell isn’t going to be an option anymore. I like the idea of having one box in the basement that does all the heavy lifting and everything just calls into.
Why do I need an Intel CPU if they sell Intel GPUs separately that have their own encode/decode engines?
With 2 pinned CPU cores, pci passthru of an Intel dual port NIC, RAM disk for logs, it should be fine. I see no issue.

They want total control and they will kill anything they cannot profit off of.
muusemuuse@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•how many people came to this platform due to leaving / being banned from Reddit?English2·7 days agoThem killing Apollo had me pissed, but for whatever reason I put up with it, waiting for something better. People were starting to talk about Emmy and I thought that was interesting and didn’t really look into it again until I said something mean about Elon and got caught up in a ban wave.
Throw zenamor and suricata at the OPNsense VM
An N100 is not going to do what I want to punish this thing with. I have an N100 build going now. It’s good but it is what it is and it’s not going to handle steam games.
Oh I get that but that would mean I would have an Intel CPU as well. No. I’m fine getting an intel dGPU but not an intel CPU. Even if I end up with a Ryzen CPU and throwing the Intel GPU in a pcie v4 slot that still plenty for this.
I wouldn’t mind an ARM build for some of this but they are expensive and not supported by mainline OPNsense so if I’m going to be spending all this money on it, it should be able to streams games too, replacing multiple power hungry devices. And ARM can’t do that.
Just a little apology to anyone who read, I definitely rambled on here. I’m overrun with ideas and just don’t know how to trim this all down
