Can’t wait to watch this. I missed out on the limited theatrical release. I wish it went to more theaters and had a longer run.

It’s kind of a bummer as it’s nice to have a more artistic representation of sex outside of porn which is more of a commodity. Movies can connect the sexy scenes to the non-sexy scenes which potentially makes them more powerful. Also, movies can tie moral value to sex which is interesting to explore.
I am in favor of sex in movies making a comeback, as long as it doesn’t create problems for the actors.
Switched my parents from an iMac to an old Dell Optiplex running Elementary OS. It worked pretty well but there were some glitches with Pantheon DE and OS version upgrades required a reinstall, so I switched them to Fedora after a couple years. It’s easier for me to support because I run Fedora on my laptop. Everyone’s happy now. There is always some amount of tech support to do but lately it has been very low. I even helped my dad upgrade the RAM over the phone once, that was fun.
Make sure to check if it actually ran from the cron job, cron is a finnicky tool
I use Borg Backup, automated with a bash script that Borg provides. A cron job runs the script at the desired frequency. I keep backups on different computers, ideally I would recommend one copy in the cloud and one copy on a local machine. Borg compresses and encrypts its backups.
Edit: I migrated a server once using the backups from this system and it worked great.
Love Inkscape, using it for 15+ years.
I sure hope they fixed the bug from the last version where it would crash if you had a drawing tablet plugged in while opening the app. That has been a huge nuisance for the last few months.
Edit: They fixed it, god bless.
Ring 98 is such a great spooky film, it’s a little scary but in kind of a fun, haunting way. I also love how it combines historical and technological elements together.
Like many GUIs it makes it so you don’t have to remember and type a bunch of commands to carry out basic tasks. I especially find it convenient for checking logs. But no unique functionality compared to CLI. So it’s a matter of preference.
The shadow of the hand over the city reminded me of the scene in Faust (1926) where the devil is standing over the village.
I got so bored watching the first movie that I turned it off after like 40 min. The emotional core of the movie is so simplistic (they literally kill his puppy? Are you joking?) and the superficial plot elements with the coins and all the assassins and stuff is so overly complicated… I didn’t think the action scenes were very engaging either. I would much rather watch The Bourne Identity.
Yeah it’s total accounts, total monthly active users is more like a million
I watched the first season, partly because some reviewers pointed out that it depicted the multiple relationships of the protagonist more like an actual polyamorous relationship than a typical harem anime. I would have to agree with this specifically in regard to the first half of the season when there are two or three girls involved with the protagonist. He actually goes out of his way to understand the needs of each partner and diffuse conflicts between the girls.
However, this dynamic breaks down fast when more girls are introduced, and the show rapidly devolves into a typical harem comedy, losing any aspect of realism or wholesomeness. Because of that I have no interest in the second season as I expect it to only get worse.
Look at the Steam Deck as an example:
We need more Linux devices like this to gain market share.
Fedi client app developers need to design fedi client apps in a holistic way to include a custom server (as with Mammoth’s moth.social) or create an account for the user on one of a curated selection of other servers, without forcing the user to choose one.
It’s a severe problem with trying to grow fedi that general users are expected to understand how servers work and make an informed decision about which one to join. General users don’t care about this topic and will quickly turn away when it is forced upon them. That’s why the client app needs to handle this for the user without making a fuss about it.
These apps also need good discovery features and feeds with posts that are trending generally and for specific topics. Then devs need to make money with those apps somehow, then they need to market those apps (at this point, it goes beyond just “devs” and expands into an organization with a marketing department, etc.).
Then, hopefully fedi’s inherent advantages of interoperability and resilience will naturally cause people to choose these user-friendly, effectively marketed fedi client apps over things like Instagram, Tiktok, etc. After all, if it can’t compete on its own merits with all other factors being equal, there’s no point to it for most people.
You’re right, I misremembered how old the characters were. I removed it from my post. I must have thought that because it dealt with a lot of mature themes and war kind of forces kids to grow up fast.
Black Lagoon is one of the most underrated shows. People who have seen it usually love it, but not enough people have seen it.
I need to watch Jin-Roh sometime.
Series
Movies
Roland Emmerich’s movies are more disaster than sci-fi predominantly, but I enjoy them even though they are of very questionable quality, especially 2012.
I liked Shin Kamen Rider even though the acting leaves something to be desired and the plot is kind of obtuse, plus the CGI is kind of cheesy.
The American Digimon movie (2000) is kind of a mess in terms of editing and the third part sucks, but I really enjoy the voice acting and the first two parts are solid if a bit rushed. Also the Barenaked Ladies needle drop is iconic.
My only point of disagreement with the article is I really like Man/Machine Interface. I know it’s kind of messy and not as clear with the plot and themes as some other entries, but the visuals alone make it worthwhile for me, it’s such a trip.
This is exactly why I’m also not that interested in Bluesky. It’s not decentralized in a way that makes it resilient to a Musk-style takeover.
PDSs are cool, Mastodon can learn something from Bluesky’s tech stack. But Mastodon made the right choices from the beginning to be decentralized for resiliency.
