Yeah, drama can be pretty fantastic if you’re not the one involved. It’s when you’re involved by the drama that it sucks major ass.

dingus@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•how did you and your partner change after having a baby?English1·24 days agoSleep deprivation is literally a torture technique. I am thankful that people do choose to try to raise children with this in mind, but it just sounds like literal torture to me. Even with people who tell me how much they supposedly love raising kids, I see the immense pain and suffering that they go through literally all the time.
My guess is that some powerful hormones must be released or something after having a child to make people think that they are enjoying their life even though an outside observer can view their immense suffering.
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those of you that back your vehicle into parking spots, why do you do it?English3·25 days agoI feel like I can pull out of the parking space quicker and easier if the nose of my car is facing towards the street.
Also, and this sounds silly so please don’t judge too hard lol…
I got a new car recently. My old car had front parking sensors that would beep in increasing frequency the closer you are to an item. My new car does not have front parking sensors. My new car has both a backup cam and rear parking sensors. So it is sometimes easier to back into a space.
However, I mostly only back in at my home parking space and in this one parking garage I go to with very narrow spaces. I get nervous in public when someone is waiting for me to back in so I don’t do it super often in public.
dingus@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Tool to install a linux distro in dual boot directly from Windows? Without live USBEnglish4·25 days agoOhhh I remember Wubi! No need to boot from an install media and you can install it entirely under Windows. That method of installing a dual boot never seemed to get super popular and I guess based on the OSes listed in that article, it seems pretty dated and not updated. I’m kind of curious to know whether or not it still works tbh.

dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some of the stupidest, **non-political** takes you've seen on the fediverse?English3·1 month agoYou can’t say you like literally any product on the internet otherwise people call you a corporate shill. It’s frustrating because people sometimes like things…that’s just the nature of life in general. Sometimes you like something that was made by a company and not just already existing in nature…
Reminds me though…I recently got called a “Russian bot” by someone on Lemmy recently. I was super confused because the content of the conversation had nothing to do with Russia or the war or Russian viewpoints or anything. It was so out of left field that I had no idea what they were talking about.
It’s usually not a psychology issue. It’s a money issue. The vast majority of people on the planet cannot afford to retire early.
Thanks for helping to validate my comment haha. I do appreciate it.
Is there anything specific you’ve done and would recommend to help swing in the other direction like you’ve stated?
Was curious as to what you might have found helpful. I had tried the beginnings of CBT in the past, but it just makes me feel bad and frustrated. I have always been taught that my thoughts and feelings are wrong, and that’s effectively the core of CBT. I don’t like it because it just propagates how everything I think and feel is invalid. Yet it’s the “trendy” thing to do nowadays so every therapist and their mother uses it as their modality.
Interestingly though I don’t think that this issue necessarily stems from deliberately toxic parents. My mom did the best she could and is very loving and nurturing but I was just too much for her to know how to deal with in this way.
When I was a kid, I would always get in trouble for getting upset. No one ever wanted to know why I was upset. They just wanted me to shut the fuck up and I often had a hard time doing so. I really wish things would have been handled the way you describe. My siblings didn’t have the same problems as me in this way so it has always made me feel alone in feeling what I feel. Now as an adult, I never know if what I’m feeling is real and valid… usually I think it isn’t.
Anyway sorry that was only tangentially related.
So why do you feel that it’s ok for your dad to have multiple wives, but not for his wives to have multiple husbands? Curious.
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who was your high school classmate that you Googled and were shocked by the results?English71·2 months agoLol! She was a real “mean girl” growing up. I’m hesitant to outright call her a bully because she wasn’t ever direct like that, but she played a part in making multiple people’s lives kind of miserable tbh.
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who was your high school classmate that you Googled and were shocked by the results?English14·2 months agoReally not that shocking at all compared to many… occasionally finding out someone is dead and etc.
But one of the ones that got me was finding out that the girl who I grew up… initially was sort of friends with and eventually painfully shunned me and treated me like an alien eventually became a therapist lmao
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which animals, besides cats or dogs, would you give a ride to or intentionally let in your home with barely a second thought?English2·2 months agoI like how casual her “ow” sounded when being mauled by a cheetah
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How was your Easter weekend? Any highlights or traditions you enjoyed this year?English2·2 months agoI worked extra hours because work had been insanely busy. My supervisor decided to give me a lecture about some incredibly minor thing I did wrong so that was fun when I already was overworked. She loves picking at everyone like that. Then the following day I ran 11 miles which is the farthest I ever ran. But otherwise I was just at home alone.

dingus@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I'm a 6'1" man with size 3 feet which means every time they measure my feet at a shoe store, the Brannock device tells me I'm not a man English2·2 months agoI thought the normal way was to crawl up on all fours like an animal
dingus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something you learned in your line of work that other people wouldn't knowEnglish27·2 months agoFirst, I do NOT work in IT or anything like that. But I seem to be the most tech savvy of all my coworkers. Occasionally one of them will ask for help and I’ll fix something for them. Sometimes one of them will comment that I am good with computers or something. Honestly, I figure things out just by clicking on everything. I think sometimes people are too afraid to click too many things for fear of breaking stuff, but there’s not a whole lot that can go catastrophically wrong imo. I tend to just click shit until I figure out what to do.
Same here. I remember about once a year growing up the school would have a day or so dedicated to the topic. I remember once as a pre teen my mom tried to give me a book on puberty for some reason. I found it embarrassing so I never read it but I never felt I needed to. The school’s teachings were sufficient.
Iirc as a younger kid they focused a bit more on changes to your own body. And then as I got older, they got to talking more about the physical act of sex.
Z Flip user here! I’ve been loving this phone. I’ve had a Z Flip since I think maybe 2022 now? Anyway, still enjoying the thing. Main reason I got it was the same reason you did… pocketability.
Modern smartphones are just so ridiculously huge that they don’t fit in the ridiculously small women’s pants pockets. I love that I can actually bring a modern smartphone everywhere without needing a purse or bag. Bonus is that it’s also just fun to open and close it… especially when hanging up calls lol.
Everyone here is recommending a cat. I have almost zero experience with them, but have experience with dogs instead. I live alone tho so I don’t think a dog would be conducive to my lifestyle. I’ve been playing around with the idea of getting a cat and stumbling across this thread isn’t helping me not think about it lol!!
I’m debating googling around right now to see if there’s a place like a shelter or something where I can view some cats lol.
