The only thing I don’t like is the short summer and long winter but I try and convince myself that it’s the 4 distinctive seasons and the shitty winter that makes me truly appreciate summer. It’s also good for the human character which probably partly explains why we’ve been voted the happiest country in the world who knows how many years in a row. It may be less true now but it’s still in our genes; in the past you better be nice to your neighbour because once the winter comes and food runs out, your life may depend on them.

I bought a pick-up truck because I’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid and one day I just realized I’m an adult with money and I can buy whatever I want.

Well I started my own business a few years later so it turned out to be quite useful purchase in the end anyway

Same with my early-2015 model MacBook Pro. My only Apple product. It just works, what can I say. I’m basically waiting for a reason to switch to the Framework laptop but we’ll see. I might eventually just get another MacBook. I gifted my SO a MacBook air around the same time I bought mine and she has had zero issues with that as well.

By using Lemmy we’re already filtering out certain people and opinions. I personally think that the more control we have over what we see, the better. I don’t think it’s opposing views people want to filter out. It’s the ones having those views and being dicks about it.

Unavoidably so but then again, going sideways because of a downvote is just more data on who you might want to block.

Echo chamber within echo chamber I guess.

It’s not the people whose opinions I disagree with who I usually block. It’s people making snide comments like this while fishing for upvotes. I’ll reserve my attention to the ones who have something to say rather than ones just wanting to make noise.

If this mean we’d be able to see who has up- / downvoted a comment on our own and possibly on other people’s posts then I’m all for it. This would be highly useful at filtering out the people here I want nothing to do with.

It’s been nothing but politics and memes (often about politics) since the first day I joined. I can only imagine how bad it is without my content filters considering how bad it is even with them.

If you mean that the average person doesn’t exist in real life then you’re correct, but to claim that what is statistically average cannot be determined, then that’s just a bunch of nonsense.

Youtube and Twitter. Technically Facebook and Instagram too but only to post pictures on my business profile as an advertisement.

• I monitor my personal finances carefully and try living well below my means
• I have effectively no social media presence
• I do childish things when out in the woods by myself such as play with puddles, make streams and larp a soldier with my outfits / gear
• My wardrobe is a bunch of near identical clothes. I basically wear the same thing every day. When I need a clean shirt I grab the one from the top of the pile.
• I eat once in the morning and again around 10pm. I also skip dinner a few times a week because I can’t be bothered to cook
• I leave most of my lawn uncut. From the street my house looks abandoned.
• I carry a folding knife with me always
• I intentionally avoid trends
• I don’t lie, not even white lies. I might not speak the whole truth but I never say something that’s untrue.

Traffic is not really the place to be kind. Just don’t be a dick and drive predictably and by the rules. Doing stuff like waving someone to go first when you have the right of way is dangerous and confusing.

That being said, one type of act of kindness that comes to mind is a semi using their blinker to indicate when it’s safe to overtake as I couldn’t see in front of them.
