Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the difference between Lemmy and Reddit from the average user standpoint?5·8 months agoI’ve moderated subreddits, I’ve moderated chat rooms and have had managerial experiences in other things over the years online.
People hated me moderating because I ‘took out the trash’ that people, including other moderators, considered the life of a community. People being meme shitlords, people trolling, people gaslighting, people instigating matters .etc
And they all got by because of friendly nepotism and shitty comradery among shitty people who love other shitty people.
I’m not the kind of moderator that I see in most moderators now, who have a brain aneurysm over some expressions and thoughts that they see others express that they deliberately misinterpret. All so that they can construct their self-justifying reasons to ban over.
And that is power-tripping, to me.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people that are for the first time moving to a place where is snows need to know?4·8 months agoInvest in electric heaters.
If you already had a place picked that’s in the north, make sure you settle in as early as a month or two before it’s winter season starts.
Do not ever neglect snow tires. If you’re tight on money, getting even 2 sets of tires for wintry conditions is better than none. But 4 is still recommended and no, All-Seasons are terrible for winters regardless of brand. They just aren’t designed for winter conditions, they’re designed mostly for Spring/Summer/Fall.
Buy winter emergency sets for your vehicle. Buy one for the glove compartment, the ones where they actually have emergency power banks in them. Buy another for general use, especially ones equipped with a piece together shovel.
Use HEET only in 30 below temperatures.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the difference between Lemmy and Reddit from the average user standpoint?81·8 months agoThe mods on lemmy are just as sensitive as the ones on reddit and they lean on excessive bans.
Man, moderators suck because they’re all closeted losers.

High five the cashier, over-compliment them, get a bunch of friends to dance with them. Then by the end, be happy they offered you a discount.
You’re almost asking to be in an environment where you’re surrounded by 386 computers, PDAs, CRTs and beepers.
We’re sadly stuck with the way capitalism has enshittified technology to where it is almost unavoidable and the only options we’re down to is how much of ourselves we limit the access to that stuff. We’re also stuck with just going second-hand shopping because almost no company wants to go back to the way things were unless they want to market ViNtAgE or ReTrO throwbacks which even they sometimes shit all over those models.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the difference between Lemmy and Reddit from the average user standpoint?7·8 months agoFor once, I am not seeing comments where it’s just an endless chain mixed with the responses of some dude’s alt and people who run a joke right off the treads. I’m seeing just responses. Actual thoughts. Even if the thoughts are shitty i.e argumentative and illogical trolls who bait, they’re still somewhat thoughts.
I don’t see a lot of “DATS WHAT SHE SAID!” followed by “AND HE SAID” followed by “AND THE CAT SAID” on and on. That’s the kind of trash you’d find on Reddit, even on subreddits where the news is reported.
Moderators that actually moderate. Now there’s still a disagreement with how things are moderated and that’s case by case. It’s not strictly a Reddit or Lemmy thing. It’s an internet thing. But, moderators on the Fediverse in general, seem to be more responsive and a little more logical than any Reddit one ever. Reddit mods, go on power-hungry blazetrails where they just ban and ban based on THEIR interpretations of the rules and not the general rules already set in the community they mod in.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you tired of helping and educating people about because you know they'll just be ignorant anyway?3·9 months agoEven if someone doesn’t regularly use computers, it doesn’t hurt to gain some experience in communicating in ways you’re not used to. Like, I don’t like ‘typing’ on a mobile phone. The interface is small, customization is limited and you’re prone to constantly make spelling mistakes. But I adapted and can at least now type on mobile half the speed I can on a keyboard.
Generational gaps need not apply. This is simply just a learning thing that is applicable to all.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you tired of helping and educating people about because you know they'll just be ignorant anyway?2·9 months agoEveryone all denial about diseases and serious illnesses until they get it. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, some of those who did get COVID and denied about it, still downplayed it like it was just a simple cold. Until you know, some of them actually died because of how much they didn’t anticipate the probability of getting it.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How would Linux look like when it hits 10% marketshare?4·9 months agoHow would the mainstream view it?
A hip cool new thing that they’re just knowing. Probably intimidated too.
How would software support improve?
Borrowing ideas from already successful ways of supporting software done in other fields.
How would gaming look like?
Probably a huge deal breaker for some. If they know they can’t run 100% of the games they acquire on an OS, then that’s it.
Which country will become the first Linux majority? India? Seychelles?
India. It’s projected to grow at 25.2%
How many local governments would start adopting it?
Not many.
What year do you think it will happen in?
If it took Linux 3 decades to finally get to even 2%, I’m betting it’ll take another 3 decades or longer.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some valid criticisms of Lemmy do you hear from people who tried out the platform?23·9 months agoI believe it’s just obnoxious trolling users who’ve been banned multiple times from Reddit now come flooding here to pull their shit again.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some valid criticisms of Lemmy do you hear from people who tried out the platform?33·9 months agoWhen you block someone, you can still see that they replied to you. I don’t want to know of their existence period, that’s why I’m blocking them and they shouldn’t have a chance to respond to me period. It’s not blocking if they can reply to me and I still see a notification that they did.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many subscribers does a community need to have to become self sustaining so that the active posters can retire?5·9 months ago5,000. That’s really my sincere answer.

THIRD PARTEH WILL NEVER WORK!”. Then they’ll go back to voting two parties who actively fuck everyone over, it’s just one party fucks over a little less than the other.
Nytixus@kbin.melroy.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the greatest extent (as in the most amount of time) to which you've eaten something past its expiration date with the food still being enjoyable?41·9 months agoI don’t press my luck with expired foods. It’s on me if I don’t eat something and I’ve had so long of a time to eat that food by. Like canned foods that go all the way out an entire year or even two. I just don’t want to ever experience botulism or food poisoning of any kind.
