Usually I’ve got a specific itch I’m trying to scratch, and often that itch is “novelty”. So I’ll pick a song I like and listen to other things by the same artist. Or listen to community radio. Or ask friends what new music they found recently.

One thing I started doing that I really like is asking peeps to give me mix CDs or handmade playlists instead of buying gifts for my birthday and Christmas.

People are barely willing to take their recycling to the alley, I doubt they’ll schlep it to a pickup site for free, especially since so many Chicagoans don’t have cars or wheelbarrows or bike trailers.

IDK but part of the problem in Chicago is that the companies are only really incentivized to recycle metal; glass and paper break about even for them, and plastic is a loss — a lot of times they just throw it out. And of course there’s crooked contracts mandating that the recycling must have a certain percentage of metal in it or penalties apply; which is complicated by the scrappers who prowl the alleys taking anything metal for private recycling.

Switch, GBA-SP, and the Sega Dreamcast

The Switch is both versatile and works very well. The previous two generations of Nintendo consoles struggled with their motion controllers but the Switch cracked it. It’s got a great library, including indies and emulation of older console libraries, and is a good size for on-the-go use.

The GBA has a great library but the SP redesign perfected the form factor. I still have and use mine.

The Dreamcast was so adventurous and bold, from the save cards having their own screens and going in the controllers to its ambitious library. I know it suffered from cost and timing but the console itself was a treasure.
