cm0002@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the biggest issue with Lemmy?465·24 hours agoThe lemmy.ml instance not being treated the same as the rest of the Triad in regards to defederation
Some highlights from the link:
"Don’t worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167
“See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn’t count!!” ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342
.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558
CW: Original transphobic Comment from Nutomic
“NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035
General negative sentiment to other instances who haven’t “seen the way” yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510
“If you don’t support Russia then you just don’t understand geopolitics” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415
And a long list of bans/censorship and allowing the proliferation of known propaganda and misinformation outlets clearly demonstrating use of their instance and recognition to force a political narrative
LMAO me trying to post a Linux article in !linux@programming.dev is always a 50/50 on if you got to it first 😂
Not really, all OC content gets proper attribution or shows in the crosspost links section/menu. If I missed one, lmk, I am after all human and mistakes happen
Context:
Why am I cross-posting .ml?
I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don’t want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some niche comms.

And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can’t even put them all here because this comment would be really long.
I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda
On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like “Lemmy? Isn’t that the place with a bunch of tankies?” Or “Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left”. The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.
Lol, I’ve been wanting to tear down my old laptops down to the board and run them “bare” in my rack as some sort of cluster lmao

But if not, then maybe?
cm0002@lemmy.worldOPto Linux@programming.dev•Disabling Intel Graphics Security Mitigations Can Boost GPU Compute Performance By 20%5·2 days ago¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it was mostly for others.
But on a technical note, subscriber count is an almost useless metric on Lemmy. There are a LOT of dead accounts.
A far better metric is MAUs, which .ml linux ranks 29th

But now I’m shelving that and revitalizing my ST instance plans instead.
Ill just have to get around to making the LCARS Lemmy UI later lol

I think Star Trek fandom is big enough for a focused instance, just not 2 of em lmao
cm0002@lemmy.worldto Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Startrek.Website Admins continue to abuse their position11·4 days agoHmm you can get around that comm ban by spreading a link that goes through another instance, because lemmy.ml blocks !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works for pretty much the same reasons (Can’t let your captive audience know of the outside dissent!)
So a link like this https://lemmy.world/c/yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com will allow a StarTrek.website user to at least see the comm

cm0002@lemmy.worldto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•You may have trouble accessing taneggs soonEnglish25·5 days agoYou can export/import subscriptions, block lists, user tags and something else I’m feel like I’m forgetting
To export go-to lemm.ee/settings and scroll to bottom to “Export”, import is the same way on your selected new instance.
You can’t export/import posts, comments or votes on Lemmy unfortunately, however, they will live on on the Lemmy-verse network. .ee comms and their content will be cached by all the other active instances and .ee user contributions to remote comms (relative to them/you) will remain
Is…is it bad that I understood the whole thing on the first go?
