Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you treat yourself to most recently?
2·12 days agoDamn, that’s a nice treat. I’m no purist but, wow, typing on a good switch/keyboard combo is a real comfy joy. I love blue switches, or the buckling spring ones from the old IBM planks. I tried a friends 25-different-switches try-out board and found out that there might be switch types I like even more! Maybe I’ll look around again if this Ducky One (3) keyboard ever dies, but I wasn’t counting on that happening :)

4·12 days agoI got a personal mixer for band practice, so I can mix my own voice monitor-audio louder then the band without touching the main mix. I had this setup working with more cables and a larger mixer, now it’s just 2 cables and the mixer clips to my belt. Glorious, less hassle, more jamming and it all fits in 1 bag now!

2·12 days agoThere’s a special house (anvil), you should try and finish that quest early for an epic payoff :). Have fun, hero of Kvatch!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend a very simple and hopefully inexpensive 'system' by which a bedridden older person might be able to access music or videos?
22·15 days agoA touchwheel of the original ipad might be doable? load it up with ebooks, podcasts, long mixes, radio recordings, you would only need to get the headset put on your head and pick something every 5-10 hours… A regular tablet loaded up with this stuff and using VLC media player to just auto-play everything in the folder might be a bit more practical to achieve, and seems the way some boomers around me like it. maybe go wired instead of bluetooth because charging requires extra handwork?

6·3 months agoThat looks like an excellent way to spend your day. Enjoy!
I feel the same way as you do now, all the new tech is very interesting on a zoomed out scale, but for me personally, I don’t want anything new unless I can own it completely and (at least try to) repair it myself.
So I’d put myself on +8 🤣

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What meals do you cook when very low on money?
4·3 months ago+1 For rice and beans. Add some drops of ketjap manis or soy sauce/salt for flavour. If you just eat rice and beans all day everyday, you’re not even that far off a complete nutritional package. If you love in a potato country, switch out the rice for taters, even better nutrition but might still be a hit more expensive.

Basically it’s really great to have this card out for yourself, and pretty horrible if it’s on your opponent’s side.

51·4 months agoAlthough its becoming more common fast, whole swaths of northern europeans never had one installed. Our houses are built to be comfy in winter :).
Power accumulation in families would be through the roof. I get that it feels crude when you can’t pass on all your wealth to your children, but it would widen the wealth gap so so much in just a couple generations. Is there another reason you think it should be untaxable?
How about no financial products, period. No loans, no mortgage, only rent-to-own or rent. Obfuscating financial products into more complex combined financial products is half of the economy crashes. Obfuscate the numbers, steal, grab, pillage while no one can understand what the frickel you are doing and BAM: profit on the backs of normies who are tOo dumb to understand what a margin call is or why CDO’s are here to violate you. All financial products are a scam waiting in ambush, waiting for another bank-bro to think of a way they can leach from society without giving anything back.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•I wish more cities were built around the Dutch "autoluw" concept. There are zero downsides, except for auto manufacturers I guess.English
6·4 months agoI totally understand. Maybe an electric bike could get that 14 miles done in 55 minutes? 50? Still not a small bike commute, but that maybe JUST ticks it over too ‘possible’ ? I had a bike commute that took me 90 minutes, electric bike brought that all the way down to 60, driving 25km/h very consistently did the trick. Again, no judgement, 70 minutes biking is no joke.
It’s good enough, and that’s really great!

Technology@lemmy.zip•Google will reduce Pixel 6A battery capacity due to overheating issuesEnglish
10·5 months agoWhen the fuck will it end? This is getting stupid. I was using my 4a as an MP3 player after i upgraded to the 6a, but it closes the player within 10 minutes EVERY TIME now, because that battery update basically chopped of 7 of the 8 limbs that thing had. I guess that’s e-waste now. Oh wait, i can switch over to my main device, that will for sure work as an MP3 player, because i payed 400 euro bucks for it.
#NOPE.
I guess being an MP3 player is only accessible for 25 euro devices that are not connected to the google borg collective. Stop fucking killing my phones you dickweeds, what the actual fuck.

I’ve lived in cities with bicycle eating tracks, where I rode my bicycle. I get that technology can fix it, but it’s such a non-issue in my view. You get dunked on once, then you know to never align with the tracks when crossing them, you make sure you cross them with a larger angle (45 degrees between the tracks and your wheels seems pretty safe). And they never got dunked on by the tracks, ever again :).
