TBDR (where B=boring):
- the first case is to force to the EU Commission to toughen its emissions targets in line with its own supposed aim of meeting the Paris 1.5C target
- the second case is to stop the Commission putting “certified green” labels on investments in LNG-powered ships and fuel-efficient planes, i.e. greenwashing
IMO the first case is obviously justified.
The second almost certainly is too, but the situation is less black and white. The Commission argues that electric planes and ships are still some way off, and in the meantime there will still be ships and planes, so might as well push the money towards the more efficient ones, i.e. don’t let best be the enemy of better. The green groups say, basically, that a carbon-spewing plane might be greener but it will never be green.
Maybe time to choose another color for that label.
