People that host Fresh RSS , I dont quiet understand what its use? Does it save the RSS articles?
It is an RSS reader. Like Google Reader was once upon a time. It watches RSS feeds feeds you put in there, and it grabs new articles in the feed (like any other RSS reader). This gives you a copy of an article in a stripped down view saved inside FreshRSS. You can also add things to a feed’s settings like the CSS ID or Class a site uses for their articles, to control what it grabs from the site. Super great app.
For me it’s mainly to aggregate multiple news site so I can more easily read them. It also helped me to centrally track which news article I have read across multiple devices
For me it’s mainly about having one source of truth (without using a cloud based account service) so it’s all stored in one place and I don’t have to worry about backups on my client devices (especially mobile, which is often a pain).
It has a web UI that you can use to browse the RSS feeds you’re subscribed to. Also allows access to RSS apps.
there are some instances that are free to use if you’d like to try it out. here is one I use: https://rss.cheredeprince.net/
It ask me for login details
yes the point of it is to keep a list of your rss feeds. an account is required for this functionality. Click “Créer un compte ?”.
There are some freely available freshrss instances if you want to try it out. The one I use
RSS feed overview with bookmark possibility, can filter ads links from rss (golem (g+) RSS news… can be used with rss bridge for twitter and full text articles,… hmm I really like it and never visit websites normal…
You can search through all rss feeds for example msa it shots all articles with msa,…
You could also add Reddit and Lemmy and Mastodon Feeds and Google alerts - totally useful
Mmm okay interesting , I am using feeder already on my phone I dont read that much news on my desktop.
Freshrss has a nice mobile web view that works pretty well. There are also several apps out there that will work with it.
Its similar yo feeder but it’ll gather articles then process them / store them locally.
You can browse them from its UI or connect via a client. I use NetNewsWire in iOS.
can I use feeder with Fresh RSS?
I’m not sure.
What’s your objective of hosting freshrss?
Also, do you mean feeder (the green app) or feeder.co?
I dont want to host , I just want to know why people hosted. I’ve seen it in a few self hosting videos and I was interested. And yes feeder the green app.
When I use my self-hosted FreshRSS, I have my own copy of the articles that nobody else can see or delete. Sometimes a site will post an article, FreshRSS grabs it, then the site takes it down. I still have it, though, because it was already grabbed. Nobody else is tracking what I’m reading. Nobody else is showing me adds in the middle of my articles. Nobody else knows which ones I favorite. I don’t see or have to exert any effort to ignore user comments. It’s much faster to scroll through the feed, read what you want, mark the rest read, and then done. You can skim a lot of stuff rapidly. but only be bothered with the title of anything you decide not to read.
We selfhost for multiple reasons:
- We like to host things
- We care about privacy
- Sick of subscription models
I am self hosting too , I meant I dont want to self host Fresh RSS without actually knowing if I am going to use ir.
