It announced the renaming in August after signaling its intent in February.

Nauru also is building closer and closer ties to Israel. They were recently one of the few countries to remain seated in the GA during Nitin Yahu’s speech, opened an embassy in Jerusalem, and voted against Palestine being admitted as a member in 2024.
I don’t personally care what they call themselves to feel like they’re decolonizing. They’re still assholes for supporting colonialists.
