I kinda like the brick-built dragons, if nothing more than their variety in shapes and sizes (and colors/designs). But these molded dragons remind me of the old Mega Blocks Dragons line, where there were like three different factions and all the different colored dragons with their cool gems and head shapes.
Oh, I wish I knew more about the Mega Blocks Dragons!! 3 different factions?!? WTF???
Well it started with two, and then they introduced an orc faction at some point, and the dragons kept getting more and more detailed and intense-looking. There were all different kinds, like some frosty ones that had been stationed in northern territories, bronze and other metallic looking ones cause they worked in mines underground, slimy forest-y ones cause duh, and so on.
There was also a Mega Blocks Pirates line that was badass too, with all different ships and boats, and islands and such. The factions here were the pirates themselves, the privateers, and then a faction of undead pirates that were all skeletons and ultra-badass with transparent “ghostly” weapons and a whale skeleton ship. There were small sets that came in decent-sized plastic skulls that were all cool looking and collectibles themselves, and iirc the back of the skull acted as a sort of baseplate for the set. They had different series of these where different skills would have different kinds of weathering and some sort of gem or item in the eye socket to make it look extra pirate-y, and I think the final wave(s) of these small sets came in shiny metallic skull cases with extra-cool-looking gems in the eyes. They even did a full collab with PoTC before Lego did their own PoTC line.
Another cool thing about the MB figures was they were more detailed with actual 3D details and textures (like the armor on a knight or the bones of a skeleton pirate and their tattered rags), and then they eventually made them into actual poseable figures while retaining their size. They had elbow, knee, wrist, and ankle joints; as well as a ball-and-socket neck/head so they could kind of look up, which made for more dynamic posing and scenes.
Woah! That seems crazy!! Holy shit! Ankle joints?!? WTF?!?!?
Maybe they didn’t have ankles, but they were still poseable. Also I forgot they actually had ghost pirates too, but those were introduced fairly late in the line iirc.
These seem wicked cool!! Did you have any of them and do you still??? Can you post some photos??
I think in the last photo, it looks like his ankle has a bend in it? It might be because his leg is bending backwards… Anyways, that seems amazing!!
I kinda like the brick-built dragons
Same. This feels antithetical to the spirit of LEGO. These “bricks” can’t really be used as anything other than a dragon.
I’m sure someone clever enough could find other uses for some of those parts. I’ve seen some interesting Galidor usage online.
