Probably the pipes get ugly if the plumber is trying to install 11s and 22s. Probably they will have a different idea.
And maybe that’s okay, isn’t it?
Why? That question always has multiple answers. Are you asking for a historical timeline? That might be the true story, but it also might not feel compelling.
Above all else, remember that Reddit feels many sources of pressure. They want money and users, but they also need to limit spam, and they don’t wanna piss off the rich stock holders, either.
Historically you are wrong, though. Mixed pressure has value and can be effective… But surely you know that, right?
Many people in the world, they don’t know the difference between an expert system and an LLM. Or, to phrase it a different way, many people think that AI is equivalent to generative AI.
I think that’s largely a result of marketing bullshit and terrible reporting. Of course it would be good if people could educate themselves, but to some degree we expect that the newspaper won’t totally fail us, and then when it does, people just don’t realize they got played.
On a personal note, I’m a teacher, and some of my colleagues are furious that our students are using grammar checkers because they think grammar checkers are AI, and they think grammar checkers were invented in the last 3 years. It’s really wild because some of these colleagues are otherwise smart people who I’m certain have personal experience with Microsoft Word 20 years ago, but they’ve blocked it out of their mind, because somehow they’re afraid that all AI is evil.
Now is the worst time to try to enter the field. We need to see the AI bubble burst much more spectacularly, and only then might it be more reasonable. You certainly don’t want to try to get into a field when you have a lot of other choices when that field is already flooded with all of these people who have been laid off, combined with the increased availability of programmers in other countries, knowing that at the moment many domestic programmers are not smart enough to form strong unions to protect their own jobs.
Gotta love American exceptionalism … and then when other countries copy the U.S., you kinda gotta facepalm.
Of course we knew that was going to happen. That’s the whole point.
That’s true and this is not an example of such a situation, because he knew exactly what the reaction was going to be. He probably felt that he could ride that AI bubble away from it, but he knew the reaction was waiting for him.
The other thing about that claim, when it could possibly be credible, is it means that essentially the boss is not qualified to do their job. The one thing they should have done is been chatting with ordinary workers or customers to see what the actual needs are, and they’re admitting it to somehow deflect from a bad decision they made but in doing so they’ve unwittingly shown that they’re basically incompetent at their entire job.
Yes of course they are at the limit, and because they poisoned the internet with generative bullshit, they can’t scrape it and expect improvement, but they are still scraping it, so they’re poisoning themselves.
The end of the article has classic snake oil trash. The idea that newer AI could be trained to think similar to how humans think. Yes, great, you know scientists have been working on that for decades. Good luck succeeding where nobody else did. There’s a reason that so-called weak AI or so-called expert systems are the ones that we all remember as having lasted for decades.
How cool! This is one great point of FOSS.
Streets are paid through tax dollars. Often income, property, and sales tax. Not from car or gasoline tax. :-)
The average consumer doesn’t care about that aspect though.
They do, of course. There’s plenty of rice of other kinds.
Exactly. Reverse DNS lookup matters in some situations.
If Musk actually does go to Russia, then I think any of his American investments will be up for grabs. That would be quite entertaining.
Yes, very publicly, but remember that they lie about everything anyway. So it’s not like the world is a better place because two pieces of s*** are insulting each other in front of the world. They could fight today and work together next week if they think it’ll get them more power and money, because that’s all they live for.
You should have learned in driver’s ed that the speed limit is the maximum possible speed you should ever go under ideal driving conditions. If there are children on the side of the road, anyone with half a brain knows that the speed limit is probably far too fast, and you should slow the hell down.
It’s all good to say that you’re following the law, but if you don’t use basic common sense, then it is your fault when you kill a small child. The driver isn’t going to be charged, but that doesn’t mean what they did is okay, and it’s really sad that you think it is.
Depends what you mean by social media. I watch YouTube similar to watching TV. Doesn’t feel anything like Mastodon or Lemmy to me, you know what I mean?
