Ask Science@lemmy.world•Why is DNA in a helix? And since we've known about it for a while how come we can't gene edit? If a kid is 90 percent going to be not "normal" then edit the gene and give him or her the best shot?English

Ask Science@lemmy.world•Forgetting all fiction what is the current status of time travel theories? Is it any way close to what we learn in school where time is linear and that's it? Or if so does it have something deeper?English

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What dumb line/joke may live in your head forever?
9·2 months agoDon’t beat yourself over it, the joke is hilarious. I think transgressive jokes require you to be really careful about your audience to:
- Not hurt or offend a member of a vulnerable population
- Not reinforce harmful stereotypes in people too dumb to tell jokes from reality
- Not make racists think you approve of their worldview
That usually leaves only the family and closest friends, if you’re lucky. That being said some of those jokes are absolutely excellent, especially those that refer to neutral characteristics, such as an accent.

It has everything to do with it. I live in a country that made greenwashing a lifestyle: Finland. Every shop around here advertises how responsible they are with their business. Meanwhile, the quality is often worse than that of brands derided as “fast fashion”. Marimekko* made national headlines some time ago when they licensed a pattern to IKEA, and the IKEA product turned out to be much better quality for a fraction of the price.
It’s very important to target fast and ultrafast fashion, and I’m glad France starts with influencers. The next step should be quality norms. Otherwise, you’re just pricing poor people out, while consumer behaviours and environmental impact stay the same, and owners of established brands get exponentially richer.
