I think people hate AI because:

• it’s trained on their stolen works
• they get no credit or payment when derivative works are made
• it let’s business owners threaten to dismiss more workers (who need to work to live, since there are no safety nets in place)
• when workers DO get displaced by AI, the AI does a shoddier job (enshittifying products and processes)
• further enables and accelerates the concentration of capital to the absolutely-most-wealthy-people

I could go on and on.

I love this idea, but the article doesn’t do a good idea of explaining anything. For the uninitiated, a data collective/coop is exactly what it sounds like: a group of people voluntarily pooling their data together Data cooperatives allow contributors to get license their data however they may want (libre/some cc/proprietary/paid), and storage, transport, etc. are managed collectively.

From the article and underlying research though, it’s weirder than that. The ultra wealthy literally do not evaluate risk the same way. It’s like they’re unable to comprehend a scenario where they might be disadvantaged or endangered.

Sad thing is, that’s a pretty safe bet.

In the early 2000s I was at the beach on Long Island. It was midday, a cloudless sky, and hot. Suddenly there was a lot of shouting and pointing, and off in the distance you could barely see a water spout, like a tornado over the water and made of water. It went up into this tiny, dense little cluster of angry looking clouds that were just completely alone in the sky. As it got closer it started to hail golfball-size hailstones they were kind of hollow, like the good, crunchy ice from a fast food soda fountain. That said in answer to your question that is a tough one because there are so many unrelated language families in NA. I’d probably pick something either Algonkian or iriquoian. Nituskeenan means “our land” in Cree, for example, and sounds kinda cool.

What if you have a huge window, or a door that happened to be open right as the street view car drove past? When Google is taking millions of measurements a year they are going to see a lot of unusual events.

If you’re into self hosting at all check out caliber-web, which uses a calibre-compatible db/backend but a web-based fronted. I switched about 3 years ago after importing my old calibre db and never looked back (household is doing around 90 books/year)

It’s a pretty narrow archive so it wouldn’t be too resource intensive. And if you’re techy it wouldn’t be too hard* to write a native activitypub client that did only this if you were active on eg lemmy and mastodon and pixelfed
