That’s what I’m used to. The way it used to be I made sure I didn’t go into the theater before the time the movie was scheduled to start because that meant watching commercials. I tried that same tactic recently and had to watch almost 20 minutes of commercials before the trailers even started.
The enshitification in late stage capitalism is such a mess.
It’s mostly commercials. And these commercials aren’t made specifically for theaters either, they’re the same crap they show on TV. Commercials are a deal breaker for me, so I just don’t go to theaters anymore.
Minimum 25 minutes where I live.

Reusing cooking oil causes cancer. I thought this was wildly known, but I’m consistently surprised at how many people online say things like this.
This is why “drip jars” stopped being used in the 20th century. There used to be one in every house until it was understood it causes stomach cancer.

Fair enough. It’s a fun movie with an excellent cast, but the capitalist edge leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Even Dennis Nedry in the book was an overworked, disgruntled employee who was partially a victim of capitalism himself. In the movie he mostly comes off as a greedy criminal. Although they did mention his “financial problems” in the movie.
It’s been years since I’ve read the book, maybe I need to reread it. Maybe I’m viewing the book through a nostalgia lense.
Jurassic Park the novel is superior to the film, and by a large margin. People who say this are either viewing the movie through a nostalgia filter or haven’t read the book.
One thing in particular that is obnoxious about the film is the messy themes. The book critiques capitalism just as much as irresponsible scientists, which is completely lost in the movie. Movie John Hammond is practically the good guy and suffers no consequences, which is makes it feel like borderline capitalist propaganda.
I wear Bedrock sandals as often as I can. I only switch to shoes when the temp won’t be going above 50 for the day. Previously I have always worn Xero shoes, but I was thinking about replacing them with a Lem shoes/boots. I like Xero, but they’re a little too minimal for a lot of conditions. I’m hoping Lem have a slightly thicker sole.
This flavor of candid admittance from a diplomat is not something I’m used to. I like it.
