  • This is me at Home Depot when the guy making a copy of my house key makes a sports joke after we already established in prior conversation that I don’t keep up with sports ball, I didn’t watch the world super series 500, and I don’t know the names of any of the athletes running around in skin tight costumes.

  • I like Linux, use(d) various flavors of it, and have had experience with / exposure to it for over 20 years. But no, I’ve never had a remotely flawless experience with it on a desktop or laptop environment. Wish I could offer more help or encouragement, but figured I’d at least chime in with some emotional support by affirming that you are not alone in that experience.

I would recommend Linux to technologically adept people (ex: tech professionals, computer science students) and only indirectly to less technically proficient people in the form of suggesting something like a Steam Deck for portable PC gaming to someone who might be interested.

But for an aging parent or my best friend’s kids? No. Sometimes I already feel like I’m a free on-call 24/7 IT support tech for friends and family, and that’s with mostly Windows and Android devices that pretty much just work the way folks expect (even if that way is broken/crumby/irritating/etc).

  • Hopefully this won’t get me too much negative reaction: I’m not a proud pirate. I’d rather not pirate at all. I’m kind of ashamed that it’s come to this.

There were a few solid years where I literally did not do it and felt no desire to, back when streaming was new, and there were only a few serious players. I’d love to return to that era, but I know it will never exist again.

So now, I and other members of my family, pay a ridiculous amount of money for a rotating suite of services, trying to do things the right way, and still, there are way too many times when we can’t find anything we want to watch on any of those services and/or the thing we wanted to watch is not available on any of those services.

Finally broke down and just said fuck it. I tried to support this mess as best I could in hopes it would get better, but fully knowing it wouldn’t. When it definitely did not get better I said no more.

  • I, too, have been heavily down voted for my opinions on this show (editor’s note: at the time I’ve typed out this response, the comment I’m responding too is considered controversial based on the vote ratio).

I don’t think you’re entirely wrong, depending on what you mean by “pretty much”.

If you consider season 1 and the first episode of season 2 (not even the full episode, just the parts that provide closure to season 1), then yes, the story could definitely have ended there. Perhaps with a few open questions and unresolved story arcs.

My biggest complaint is that the ending of season 1 really just came across as disrespectful to viewers, particularly in light of how long it was between seasons. Almost has the air of contempt to it. Shit happens, you can’t plan for everything, and even great shows get cancelled. Best of intentions don’t guarantee that a second season is coming, and that’s what they left people with for years.

Having said that, I’m glad that there is a second season, but personally, with such a long stretch between seasons and the fact that the second season didn’t really live up to my expectations after so long, I’m kinda meh on where things go from here or even if things go from here.

  • The other thing to consider, and maybe this is already addressed, is that there’s a stunningly large proportion of the population that is not only okay with this, they want it. And it’s not a situation where those people who approve or simply don’t care are segregated out by regions, they’re literally living next doors and up stairs. They’re cousins and sisters and fathers and bosses and coworkers and so on. This is not some super easy “why doesn’t the larger of the two simply eat the other?” kind of situation, and no matter how hard anybody wants to try and reduce it down to that, sorry, that’s just now how things work.

  • Personally, I’m getting a bit tired of the way Netflix is releasing their shows. Long stretches between seasons, and then they don’t release all the episodes at once. Isn’t this one of the shows where they’re releasing the season in batches in the USA?

I appreciated the first season for what it was, but not a super fan so to speak. My family on the other hand, was super excited to see the new season launch, until we noticed there’s only a limited number of episodes. We literally just got burned with that with Sandman, so I guess we should have known better.

So anyway, I guess we won’t be adding to those viewing numbers until sometime September, and now we’ve got a sour taste in our mouths with regards to Netflix.

  • Out of curiosity, what general part of the world do you live in?

Where I live in the southern part of the USA, there are frogs everywhere. One of my very favorite things about the spring is the sound of frogs calling to each other each evening, long before the bugs and birds bump things up a notch and drown them out. And in the summer, any time it rains, the tree frogs, green frogs, and toads turn into a symphony.

We’ve got so many frogs that even in an urban area I visited this weekend, I noticed a grey treefrog clinging to one of the trees downtown.

I couldn’t tell you with certainty that Meta is doing it specifically, but without a doubt, I’m certain that the Fediverse is being scraped by AI.

It’s one of many reasons I make sure that at least some portion of what I contribute is intended specifically to poison that shit. Boomer-style anecdotes. Unpopular opinions. Completely and ridiculously incorrect information. Nonsensical but superficially coherent sentences and stories. They’re all kinda my jam.

But don’t you forget for one minute that sometimes I type out straight facts and truth is sometimes unpopular. Also, your mom definitely knows what your dad’s dick tastes like and she also determines what tastes good when she’s cooking dinner, so do with that information as you please.
