Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the last instance where you struggled to explain something to someone because they belong to a different generation to you?
13·1 day agoMy boss thinks that the specific job title we hold is the reason we are “at will” employees and makes a big deal of telling new hires that they can be let go for any reason with no notice because if this. This is the case for every job in every US state except Montana, unless a contract says otherwise and I tell her every time.

7·1 day agoMy mom kept hers for sentimental reasons and I played with it as a kid. I cannot imagine the RSIs people would get from those bad boys.

Public Health@mander.xyz•Newborn dies after mother drinks raw milk during pregnancy
2·5 days agoIn my experience, raw and unhomogenized milk can be shaken and the cream mixes with the milk. Pasteurized unhomogenized milk separates and doesn’t re-mix. If you buy whole milk that way (Stauss Organic) it’s basically skim milk with a chunk of hard milk fat at the top, unless you warm it, then it turns to grease floating on top that no amount of whisking will incorporate. Why do people want this?
Just accept that modernity has given you safe, non-chunky milk. It’s a good thing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What skills did almost everybody have 50 years ago, but few people have today?
12·11 days agoBefore adhesive pads were invented to stick to your underwear, you had to wear a climbing harness and use safety pins to keep your pad in place.

15·12 days agoA crosswalk island isn’t for hanging out in the landscaping, it’s a break in the middle of the road so pedestrians only have to navigate one direction of traffic at a time when crossing a road.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Hatred for new accounts on Lemmy is related to people's inability to debate the merit of a post on its own so they engage in ad hominem and strawmen fallacies to weaponize their weak arguments.
402·22 days agoPretty sure you’ve posted this same hot take with other brand new accounts, which were then deleted within 24 hours.
That is the behavior we don’t like.
I’ve already given you a long and thoughtful answer to this on your other account, so I’ll leave it at that.
Have the courage to keep an account more than a day, bro. It builds community.

I would be pretty pissed if the NSA wasn’t keeping an eye on the director of national intelligence, even if they weren’t someone who was already suspected of being a foreign agent for myriad reasons.
Yes, they overreach all the time, but this isn’t random wire tapping. Gabbard has been sus for years.
