There is no “algorithm” in the common use of the word - there is no machine learning black box running what you see, if you can read source code you can see exactly what it’s doing: see the listing types, and how those types are used and sorted. Either you’ve subscribed to a furry community (I’m assuming not if you’re complaining about it), or you’re on all and seeing the content because other users are upvoting it.

Yeah turning off nsfw filters and searching “furry” or “yiff” is probably the best bet to find anything.

In my opinion, it’s not about trying to prove you’re a genius, the key is that confidence and passion is infectious - people want to be around interesting people who are interested in them. Being skilled and well-read, as well as having hobbies lets you engage competently in deep conversation and have interesting qualities you can connect over or other people can grab on to.

Seriously though, there were a few factors. It was a combinations of building up my confidence (that’s how estrogen helped, turns out when you stop hating your body and life, you get more confident) and actively constructing situations that allowed me to connect and build relationships with people. I started a book club as a not so subtle way to get people in a room and talking to me, I reached out to people to have them round for dinner, I put a lot of effort into being thoughtful and kind. Developing a variety of hobbies and interests means I have plenty to talk about and lots to fill my time when I’m not doing that - a creative hobby is especially great for that.

Most people don’t have the skills to improve UX themselves and it shouldn’t be a requirement of any software aiming for mass adoption. Frankly if you have users familiar with the product space reaching for a manual you’ve failed at UI design. It is entirely possible to design a new UX that people can still pick up and use largely without assistance

Have you considered that the reason the community isn’t curious about your opinion is because they’ve heard it dozens of times before? Or maybe your opinion is just rude, or maybe you’re posting it in a space that was never for you in the first place?

The entire internet is not and should not be an endless space for you to engage with the MArKetPLAcE OF idEaS. There are plenty of dedicated spaces for that in which every party has already consented to that kind of discussion.

Absolutely for me Mythic Quest. I know it’s a well regarded show, but I found it pretty average overall. But OMG S02E06 Backstory is so much better that it blows every other episode out of the water.

In my experience, Wikipedia has a pervasive cultural of false balance, and it does not surprise me at all that this attitude extends to the founder of the site. Despite their many policies dictating otherwise, in my experience adjudicators often end up weighing authoritative academic sources equally with outdated or lower quality references. Looking through the talk page, it sounds like there was already an extensive RFC for the wording of the lede. Policy was already applied correctly in this case - the system worked as it was supposed to - and it’s incredibly inappropriate for Wales to pull rank, reopen discussion when there has been no notable change in circumstance, and advocate for this exact kind of behaviour.

I’ve experienced both sides, and there is definitely a different quality to the attraction and horny-ness. It’s hard to put my finger on or describe in a way that isn’t a cliche like “aggressive” and “raw”. It’s less romantic? It fills your mind a little, it’s impulsive, it doesn’t have the same yearning. If people want a respectful space to discuss among themselves I don’t see any good reason to force myself into the conversation. Not every space on the internet (or real life) needs to be a stage for the free marketplace of ideas, especially when you’re talking about already marginalised communities who are easily disenfranchised by many of the kinds of people attracted to that style of space.

Personally, looking at the interaction between yourself and the mod, it reads to me like you was the one who was sarcastic and rude.

This feels more like two questions, so I’ll answer them both:

1. When I’m not programming for my job, I’m programming one of many side projects I have going on at any time. Same with any other professional who has a career in their hobby. These are often projects I think would be useful to me and I believe would let me learn new skills.
2. I use Linux (and MacOS) because the Unix environment, particularly the command line tooling is far superior to Windows. Developers often work on Unix, so they build their tools for the platform and thus improvements stack up. I also just like the FOSS philosophy underpinning most Linux.

If you’re trying to learn programming and know at least some basics, my only advice is to pick a project you’re even a little interested in and get started. Don’t worry about operating system, it doesn’t actually matter that much unless you’re working on iOS or MacOS! A weather app for whatever language/platform you’re working with is usually my first suggestion for students.
